Spring Matsutake

Matsutake is known to occasionally produce fruit in spring. Production is almost always limited to only 1 or 2 widely scattered, or 1 patch produce several. It is rare to find commercial quantities.

Temperature patterns which produce matsutake can happen almost any time of year in one area or another. Fresh fruiting has been noted in every month throughout, matsutake ecosystems. Typical patterns are loosely depicted in the graph above. Watch for warm spring days followed by cooling, warming and cooling again.
