good garf, where has the year gone. It's about half over and I still have not pick a basket of morel's this year, there is always next year are maybe I'll go South, way South. I see we are in for more rain from the south and it could be some real down pour's. I think we are going to be wet all summer if there is a summer. I've lookup some of my old book's on weather from year's past and as fare back as 1976 when I started picking them funny one. That year was really wet all Summer long and the mushrooms didn't do so well but them funny ones did. I well be in troutlake puting up camp this weekend (sorry, there Rick ) and I do have the right to teach other's the right way and the wrong way and set up where I want to camp, besides the burnis two year's old and never have a good showing and it is wet this year and a good place to start a research plot

what's cotton and splash? any thoughts on hitting a fire after year two? education and sharing knowledge is the way to a wiser future. also, squits love the color blue and your exhaust (co2)!, as most here probably know, building a smoke fire generally keeps squits/blackflie numbers to a managable level. safe travels to all.

Co2..... ordering mine now...lol ..... bloody skidders will fly away with your mushrooms if your not watching.... They will carry them to some roadside to see how many other pickers they can get to stop and check ...then they sweep in like an airforce squadron. Some even hide inside the shrooms so when you take them inside your screened in room they come out to get ya.. they know you will be sitting back with a beer relaxing and feeling safe..... then they sneak attack.... those northern skidders are pretty danged smart.

kingmorel; I haven't seen any skeeters since leaving the SoCal patches back in early March, must be too high up right now ... except for the naturals coming up in the old Columbia Complex burn. I just dropped down off the mountain to a town with Library internet and will be headed out to check other patches in a few minutes. Would really enjoy coming up to Canada, I used to do research in BC until one day the border ruffians pocked their fingers in all my motor home food stashes etc for two hours because I had a photo of my former police attack dog with my mug visible. Finally they sent me to immigration and the guy there called the interrogators and said, "Why are you holding this man up, he is clean!" An hour or so later I was in Kelowna to visit a lady friend and then headed over to Nakusp.

They don't always carry guns or even say anything, last year on a fire in Oregon, me and my friends were picking when over the hill came a group who out numbered us five to one and they didn't have any problem walking right up on us even picking by our buckets. They picked every thing above ground just like locust, and pretended that they didn't understand english or facial expressions, they just didn't care!

ZiQuinn so many for get to live thier lives as they go along... Those crzy scum lickin low lifes are evrywhere indeed.. not just in the patches.. thing about bullies is most are cowards when pressed, but when you add drugs like meth you nvr know how they will react..... Thats when ya get on the phone " ring, ring, hey Gino I got a job for ya" One thing about getting older is you tend to bypass those issues as its takes more energy to hit them head on... possitive energy attracts possitive outcomes.. well now to go head on with a new flush of mosquitoes... have fun out there...

Carla, I go with moderation. There are more nuts in the woods now than ever. When a weapon of any kind makes you feel bigger than the rest, you have a real social problem on your hands. However, thats where we are at.. It is just not here, its everywhere at least at some degree. Getting older has its advantage. I remember the past and loved it. what I have today is but evidence to the future. I love life and want to live it. Once again, however, I look forward to the most wondeful things the mind can imagine.. Love Ya... Uncle, Don

Boletus Joe; that is good news for your area, I was lucky yesterday to find a patch that had numerous recent forager tracks within 20 yards yet had been missed because the habitat did not match that in the area they were all looking at. ......... Currently the best pickers have been only averaging perhaps 5 pounds or less, I know good commercial pickers older than me who were raised here who are lucky to get a couple pounds of naturals. The loggers seem mostly to be waiting for some other year to flush and even blond naturals are showing up at buy stations, in my opinion that indicates a possible near end for the naturals here. ......... Wish we had a good burn close by but they are too small for the influx, like has been previously said the babies get torn from Mother prematurely. There are large blue-tarp camps growing in the forest which means more competition for the few available morels. It is doubtful that very many will ever reach maturity in the burn sites available here this year.

Waiting for Sunday to depart..... What fun reading all the jibs & jabs here. I think Andy should open up another sight for Morel season. There are going to be so many shrooms out there buy next week, no one will have time to post here........ The lower south west corner should be reserved for all you mountain goats. Close to Vancouver easy to get at ....and it will get trashed I'm sure of that...... Sad but true..... every year is the same. Greed takes over, can't we just go out and ENJOY it for what it is..... and if you make a bit of pocket money that's great. Be thankful we have not got to the point of having a bunch of gun toting wanabeys invading our space."YET!" There are so many fires to look at, there is room for everyone. Interestingly, the farther north you go the more enjoyment you have.... G'day and g'picking.

Mike- I've never looked for mushrooms in the Cottage Grove area. However, as I understand it you are nearing the end of the season at lower elevations. You might still be able to find a few along the river under cottonwood trees. You also might want to check out some one year old clear cuts in the hills around that area. Other than that, its about time to start heading over to the other side of the Cascades. Its not hard to find at least a few over there if you are at the right elevation at the right time. Hope that helps you. I'm guessing that no one will tell you exactly where to look.

hey hey Carla...srry for my slow responce.... Im way too busy but wanted to drop in to say hi to all. Im really needing a good pick... this city is giving me a bad attitude lol. Im planning on heading to the Little Salmon lake YT fire in early June for a few weeks, then canoe the yukon river to Dawson. I cant take too much time as my partner will be alone at the store. My glass over flows and im running here and there... mostly downhill these days. all the best... have a great season..R
