Pretty sad as adults it can still be like junior high. Everyone has something to offer and some things not so much. If you get burned, you just don't jump in that fire again. Like I wont, but for August, he's a straight up guy! My thoughts are out there for you. Hope things get better.

Generally a person who chooses to be disrespectful, is usually a thief to others. Unfortunately it took years for some to realize the truth and integrity of said individual named Chris, who blatantly uses excuse after excuse for his demeanor - A special note, digital photos contain a digital signature, unique, much like the signature of a gun barrel, no 2 are alike and are traceable back to its original owner for a copyright. Other features/software can include/exclude global positioning and facial recognition in that digital trail.

Ya, I also have said things I later regret. Most boards offer an edit button like the Matsiman Message Board & Forum does. On this board what you say is what is only revisable by Andy and I commend him for just letting us spout off. I like August and I used to like Chris, it often takes several little things that add up before I finally decide that someone has burned-their-friendship-bridge to me.

I would say, well said LL, but I did that earlier this week with Cougarman on the other board. Its true tho about August, he's our's, and we are family. We may bitch amongest ourself's, but don't get between us! Our family is all we have in this world and some times we lose sight of that, but in the end we still find each other when everything seems to be at it's worst! You keep on being you, August! You have friends that will alway's be here for you when your down and out, just like family!

I spent the past few days in a river gleaning a few treasures out of bedrock cracks and observing helicopters dropping water on a forest fire, got some nice photographs. I do not feel that my time is worth enhancing the controversy, suffice to say that I never gave my permission for book publication of any pilfered photographs and it is not true that once you publish a photo to the web it belongs to the site or anyone who desires to steal it. In my opinion from reading US copywrite law and after listening to my daughter expound upon the subject following her university studies in it, the photos are still exclusively mine unless I sign a photo release for its usage. …. Our friend August of whom this board is dedicated to, is entitled to discussions of the rabbit, Alice or what ever he desires is appropriate with the rest of us. I commend Andy the Matsiman for the creation of this board. I have not talked with August for a month or so but understand that he has his own personal, computer and family challenges that might prevent him at times from coming to his own defense here, sometimes his postings are difficult to comprehend and he does have a tendency to type a reply prior to thinking it over first but he is our August one. As with photo thiefs & the female poster I like to refer to as m5s, I don’t hate anyone who lies to or about me but I do seek the ability to be more forgiving of those who trespass against me.

The tax and permit knowledge posted on this board sure isn't at the level where you two should be offering advice to others. Truffle dog, it wasn't long ago that you were on this very site defending commercial permit sales to people who are not residents of the USA. How exactly do you suppose they are paying these same state taxes you are so concerned about today? Non forest products permit, lol.

I pay taxes to the IRS and the State of Oregon every year on business that I conduct in the State of Oregon (my mushroom sales). Thanks again for the tax help awhile back, Carla. Your answer satisfied the Oregon Department of Revenue. Hey, Chris Matherly of the Morel Mushroom Hunting Club, since you are participating here now, did you pay the State of Oregon their taxes due for your income from the illegal incursion into the Badger? You are almost out of time to file. How about the Washington State Sales Tax for business conducted in Washington? Have you been filing your business and occupation tax forms with the State of Washington? If not, you really don't have any business in Washinton or Oregon. Do you have any business in any state? Did your "playboy bunny" pay for the trip or did you violate the Mann Act and comp her fee for services rendered? lol. Are you now or have you ever been a.... professional mushroom picker? Done for now as I am back to work but will be waiting to hear the "truth."

In all fairness, they picked on the east side, I personally talked to the Naches Rangers who told me they haven't sold a commercial mushroom picking permit for many, many years! It has pretty much been locals who pick that side, now however the other local population (mex) is learning it as well. I pick the west side and sell in Randle, last year I saw car load after truck load of mexican pickers come into sell (one with a permit, and the rest watched), night after night! It's enough to piss the Pope Off. Chris is a bad boy sure enough, but he's the least of my worries!

Hey August, when Chris finally showed with his Styrofoam cooler and his citibank card did he stop at the Packwood station to get ALL the correct permits and passes. Morel permit, non forest products permit, wilderness permit, cascade volcanic permit, recreation day pass, maybe a NW forests pass,,, bet not! http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/04passes/ Wilderness permits are free, wilderness foraging is ok, as long as the foraged food is consumed inside the wilderness and not sent back to the commercial paying persons cars, parked at the trail head. @ 200 per person who is goina leave behind mushrooms.

The truth hurts: "I did learn one thing, I am perfectly capable of handling a western foray without August." Chris whines about A', A' whines about Chris, whine, whine. Which one wants to be THE MUSHROOM GUY more? You both seem a bit flakey, so it will be a difficult choice to make (I vote A', because his has more woods cred and he is, after all, our resident Mad Morel). It seems that neither of you are union members, and are willing to give out the trade secrets. Yes, you act like scabs. Don't worry, he with the best publicist will win. One lesson that Chris didn't have to learn from you was to abandon his customers, he did it in the Yukon a couple of years ago when he skipped that foray for another foray in Washington State that he scheduled with A' for the same time. Better show some more guides your "tricks" there, A'. It seems that the Mushroom Whisperer has learned the ones you taught him.

When you submit photos to most sites, they become property of the site. When you openly publish information on a public message board, such as Matsiman, it is released into the public domain. It seems that Chris Matherly would like to speak the "truth" now. Too bad he couldn't have been so truthfull about his Yukon foray a couple of years back. Here is a bit of truth: If someone publishes plagiarized or just blatently stolen material, the publisher is liable for damages. This book is more than likely self-published since no publishers name appears with the book and release forms were not obtained prior to publication. Legitimate publishers often just pay the offended (plagiarized) party if the offended party is well represented. Unless you submitted the photos to the morel mushroom hunting club (agreeing to transfer the right to publish to the photos to Chris), you may have a case. Chris has a book by the same name available at iTunes for $4. (Your info should be worth at least that much ManicJon, King Morel and A', I would think) Don't forget to threaten to sue the digital distributor if it is the same publication, and get your info pulled from digital distribution on the Web by Chris. It seems that Chris is in this to make money and thinks that sharing the wealth is a bit too much to pay. Now he is asking forgiveness. Hey, Chris Matherly, try obtaining permission next time.

I doubt many mushroomers on the west coast would be happy to see their grey morel photo relabeled as a blackfoot morel. Especially when the made up name, based on tests that don't really apply, comes from someone who hasn't even picked one.

Morel Doctor: We previously had discussions about me writing a book, and that I wanted to use your photo of a Blackfoot Morel, sure I don't have it in writing, but why on Earth would I be the one to ask you your mailing address so I could send you a copy if I did this behind your back? I also included you in the credits in the beginning of the book! You must not remember our phone conversation. My fault for not properly emailing and having an actual document of our agreement. I will be sure to handle this accordingly in the future with you and anyone else. I hope you can forgive me on any miscommunicatiuons John. I see August has yet to respond to the :"Truth"

Chris Matherly; Here is some truth from my perspective. I did not realize that you were publishing a book until my friend August told me on the phone that you had given him a copy. When I received and read your book I was not pleased to find my photographs published without my name credited on each photo but I am even less pleased that my photographs were published without my permission having been given. It is unlawful to plagiarize other peoples artistic creations, PERIOD. Last year told a former friend that had posts on this and other boards that I did not hate her when she lies but I do not feel that I could ever trust her again and that same feeling of distrust seems to apply here. I do wish you and all people luck in righteous, honest endeavors but do not include me in any way-shape-or-form unless you have my written permission to do so.

With as few mushrooms as it sounds like they found and so many people on the outing I seriously doubt permits (plural) were legally required. If you are just gathering a few to eat, like it sounds they were, you can even do that in a wilderness area.

my message sent to Moreldoctor I just wanted to touch base with you, not sure how much you talk to August. I wanted to give you a heads-up. August really screwed me on this last foray. The first day, we all (all in the foray group) are waiting on him to get moving, very slow and sluggish, and finally he shows up. I ask him if he wants to fill up his car, he said he had enough to get there and back to town. (he was supposed to get his camping stuff the night before, but neglected to, so was going to have to come back into town later then head back to campsite to set up tent before dark). So we head to the first hunting spot. (He was supposed to have burnsite locations figured out way prior to me coming out, we spent a couple days trying to find a fire when I first got there, but couldn't do so, so we were just going after naturals). Hunted there for a couple hours, went to a second spot just 1/4 mile up the road. He wanted to break off at 3 PM to be able to go back and get his stuff, (including a cookstove, as I am cooking dinner this very evening for everyone). He asked for some gas money, I had almost no cash on me, that is why I asked him earlier to fill up, so i could use my card, had to borrow $20 from one in the group. We briefly gathered all our finds and took a photo of the mushrooms. Sadie, August's girlfriend, had a small bag that we included in the photo. She had them in a walmart bag, and I noticed they were getting spoiled. Since it is early, and we got a late start, we wanted him to direct us to one more spot to hunt until 5 PM or so, all he did was drive us back down the same road and say look up in there... Well, it was no spot for Morels to say the least, he blowed us off because of his lack of having things figured out. So at 5:30, we head back to camp, wait, wait, and still waiting at 7 PM, everyone getting aggravated. No August. Finally, I say lets just head back to the lodge where there is a restaurant, and I had to buy everyone dinner, they were expecting a mushroom dinner. I head back into town, get food supplies for the next day, try to call August, no answer so i assume he made it back to camp, maybe we passed on the road. I get up early, call August again, no answer, again assume he is at camp. I drive to camp, as I am required to cook a mushroom breakfast. August is not there. I have no idea what the hell is going on. One of the couples took the initiative since August didn't make it back to camp as planned the night before, and drove out early before i got there, and purchased a cookstove, and other cooking supplies, pots pans, etc. Thank God for that, as I had to use his stuff to cook breakfast (after waiting until 9:30 AM hoping August would show up and he never did). So, now it is time to hunt again, and no August. We had scoped out 2-3 spots, but I did not GPS mark them, as I didn't think I needed to, and just couldn't remember where they were. I was left in a terrible terrible predicament. Thank the Lord I lucked into a couple good spots on my own. So the 2nd day is over, and we all head back to camp, I am thinking, gosh, maybe he got a late start and he will be waiting for us at camp. Nope, still no August. I cook dinner and then head back into town once more for the 3rd day's supplies. I call August, no answer. I get up the next morning and head back to camp, cook breakfast, and finish the foray on my own. So I ended up having to refund one couples fees for buying the equipment. (I had already bought a cooler, which I was going to just leave with August for future forays). I only had 7 paying people so barely breaking even anyway. I get back to town, and August had left me a couple messages. I called him. Now, hope you are sitting down John... He was mad because I only gave him $20 for gas, and Sadie accused me of switching her Morels with bad ones. Can you believe this horse SH*T? Then he wants paid for the first day, I already gave him $20, and he shows up late and leaves early, then leaves me in this extreme mess, and still wants paid? I did absolutely nothing John. He really screwed me. Now he is being aggressive towards me paying him for the one day. I just wanted you to know the truth about what is going on, (I realize you probably don't even know any of this but eventually you will talk to August). I did learn one thing, I am perfectly capable of handling a western foray without August.

I googled copywright and came up with information that a persons work such as is in 'myspace' or photographs, written work etc is apparently automatically copyrighted and protected, thus any use without permission is theft. Randy; I did the same thing two or three years ago and gave Chris permission to use some of my photos that I submitted for his photo contest on site but not for publishing in any book. I was surprised when he sent an Email to ask if I desired a copy of his book due to the fact that he has used one of my photos in it. He sent a free copy and I noticed several of my fire morel photos that I believe were copied from off the internet and no credit was given to the photographer. August told me that he has was given a copy of the book also. I only met Chris once at August's place in Yakima and sold him some late season fire morels. I banned myself from his site a few years back due to observing things I did not agree with. I haven't the time currently to review which photos I had sent for the contest because I am too busy chasing fire morels and porcini. The pages of the book that are attributed to being from 'King Morel' has the story and photos of picking and drying fire morels in the Yukon and may have been copied from your "myspace" pages ? If Chris will not give you a free copy then I am willing to send mine for your review. As I said previously posted below " I have considered August to be a friend and have also considered Chris to be a friend. " I perhaps should have used the word 'acquaintance' because I have made numerous acquaintances in the process of following the mushroom circuit and posting on discussion boards but I am cautious of forming friendships.... kind of like any other LONE LOBO, I am more of a mountain hermit than gregarious type that seeks group social interaction.
