We started calling number 5's that were real flat "Eddie Caps" because our friend Eddie, who bought a lot of pines from us, had a crew-cut. Sixes that curl up on both sides are "cowboy hats". Best wishes to everyone for the New Year!

Just for some off season fun, I was wondering if anyone had some mushroom related terms that were perhaps local in nature....... EG: What do you call a #5 matsi ? Is it a Boot'er, or is it a Hat. ( what do you call it where you are?) What do you call a #1 matsi....Bud ,Button, Knob. What is a Dipper? How many different morels are there....Conicals,Greys,Blondes,Greens,Blacks....etc.....Any takers? Throw in your comments.

I'm predicting $12 a pound season opener out west here..but as a result of the f'd up weather due to climate change (sudden swings from extreme hot and dry to extreme cold) no commercial pop of naturals and with no producing burns to speak of either, no big deal.

What is wrong with the US Forest Service managers? They cannot get their jobs done in a timely manner. We are forced to buy permits for picking mushrooms then are excluded from burns because the USFS is too lazy to get the ground open for morels. The loggers are able to use the roads and get paid for it. We pay to use the roads and are excluded. It is time to review the expectations of the mushroom pickers and the inaction of the managers. I am getting nothing but limited protection from the LEOs and databased by buying a permit. I am certain that if I were manager, I could have the roads open. Time for a change of personnel at the top.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita Another good site explaining aminitas and how dangerous they can be. I personally believe all mushrooms hold there own benefits and dangers but I am no one tell or influence anyone on the consumption of any questionable mushrooms. Just trying to share knowledge. steve

Hello, To begin with I do not suggest the consumption of Aminita mushrooms at all. With that said has anyone else here read about doctors using death caps against cancer and being successful? I have been doing some research and it appears that some cancers have been pretty much cured by using Aminita toxins in the right dose in the right way. Again I do not suggest anyone ingesting injecting or introducing these toxins to their body in any way. Aminitas depending on the particular mushroom can be and are deadly. Only people with extensive knowledge should look for a third party with further knowledge to study this more.
